BREAST ENHANCEMENT PLASTIC SURGERY PROCEDURES

BREAST AUGMENTATION

Breast augmentation is usually done to balance the difference in breast size, to improve body contour, or as a reconstructive technique following surgery.

Breast augmentation incisions are made to keep the scars as inconspicuous as possible in the breast crease, around the nipple, or in the armpit. Breast tissue and skin is lifted to create a pocket for each breast implant. The breast implant may be inserted directly into the breast tissue or beneath the chest wall muscle. The location where the breast implant is placed is determined by your body build, the final look you desire, and other factors which will be discussed in your consultation.

After breast augmentation plastic surgery, breasts appear fuller with a more desirable tone and contour. Scars will fade with time.

BREAST LIFT

Over time, a women's breasts begins to sag and the areola becomes larger. Breast lift can improve both the shape of the breast and the position of the nipple. Breast lift may be combined with breast augmentation. Breast lift is intended to give the patient an elevated, more youthful breast contour, as well as nipple-areolar complexes of the desired size and height.

The design of the incisions can vary but usually include incisions around the nipple-areolar complex and in the crease under the breast. The nipple-areolar complex is repositioned higher, the excess skin is removed, and the breast is reshaped in a pleasing contour and in a more normal position. Sometimes a breast implant is placed at the same time to further improve the final shape of the breast.

The patient goes home with only light dressings over the incision lines. Dr. Hendricks will use dissolving sutures that do not need to be removed.

If your expectations are realistic, chances are you will be very satisfied with your breast lift.

BREAST REDUCTION

If you are a woman with overly large breasts, breast reduction surgery can be a tremendously life-enhancing option. Having the procedure will give you far more than just smaller, firmer breasts. You'll also get significant relief from many physical and emotional discomforts as well as a new sense of freedom in your exercise and physical activity, and the ability to wear a greater variety of clothing styles. In fact, of all the procedures that plastic surgeons perform, breast reduction ranks among the highest in patient satisfaction.

The most common breast reduction method uses a three-part incision. After Dr. Hendricks has removed the excess breast tissue, fat and skin, the nipple and areola are shifted to a higher position. The areola, which is usually larger than ideal, is reduced in size. Skin that was formerly located above the nipple is brought down and together to reshape the breast. Liposuction may be used to improve the contour, especially on the sides of the breast. Sutures close the incisions, giving the breast its new contour. The final scars located around the areola, below it, and in a few cases, the crease under the breast are permanent, but usually fade to a faint, pale line.

Breast reduction typically makes a dramatic change in your body image, and it may take some time to adjust to your new appearance. However, most women soon become comfortable with their smaller, more proportional breasts and feel very pleased with the results of surgery.
