The most common breast reduction method uses a two or three-part incision. After Dr. Hendricks has removed the excess breast tissue, fat and skin, the nipple and areola are shifted to a higher position. The areola, which is usually larger than ideal, is reduced in size. Skin that was formerly located above the nipple is brought down and together to reshape the breast. Liposuction may be used to improve the contour, especially on the sides of the breast. Sutures close the incisions, giving the breast its new contour. The final scars located around the areola, below it, and in a few cases, the crease under the breast are permanent, but usually fade to a faint, pale line.

Breast reduction typically makes a dramatic change in your body image, and it may take some time to adjust to your new appearance. However, most women soon become comfortable with their smaller, more proportional breasts and feel very pleased with the results of surgery.
