Gynecomastia

Newport Beach - Orange County - California

If you or a loved one is self-conscious about excessive male breast tissue, you are not alone. Gynecomastia is a condition that affects an estimated half of all men in Orange County and throughout the country. There is no definitive cause for the abundance of male breast tissue resulting from enlarged mammary glands. Because the condition can be a source of embarrassment, it can be difficult for men to discuss the problem and explore potential solutions out in the open.

Dr. Douglas Hendricks and his Newport Beach cosmetic surgery team at Pacifica Cosmetic Surgery Center have a safe and effective solution to gynecomastia that will help you overcome the embarrassment and get a more masculine chest contour. Breast reduction for gynecomastia is a popular procedure that has helped thousands of men achieve a normal appearance. During the surgery, Dr. Hendricks removes excess fat, glandular tissue, and skin if necessary for a firmer, more toned chest.

Step 1: Gynecomastia Diagnosis

To diagnose the problem, Dr. Hendricks will do a thorough evaluation, along with specific tests such as an ultrasound or mammogram. Blood tests, X-rays, and a thorough health history review are used to rule out other conditions and reach a diagnosis of gynecomastia. Our team will discuss all of the risks and benefits of gynecomastia surgery with you to help you determine if this solution is the best one for your situation.

Step 2: Breast Reduction Surgery

The breast reduction surgery is gone as an outpatient procedure. Before you are given the general anesthesia, Dr. Hendricks and the team will review all of the important information, including what you can expect postoperatively. During a one- to two-hour surgery, Dr. Hendricks gently extracts excess fat and glandular tissue, and may use liposuction if needed. The incisions are made in either the armpit or areola locations, and scarring is minimal. You should expect some discomfort, swelling, and bruising during the healing process, all of which can be controlled with prescription medication. Dr. Hendricks will give you a pressure garment to be worn for a specified amount of time, and you will return in about two weeks to have your sutures removed and your progress evaluated. Keep in mind that it may take several months before the complete results of gynecomastia surgery are noticeable.

Breast reduction surgery for gynecomastia can help you improve your appearance and enjoy the self-confidence that comes with a firm, masculine chest.
