FACIAL PLASTIC SURGERY PROCEDURES

FOREHEAD LIFT

As we age, gravity tends to cause the skin of the forehead to wrinkle and droop. This results in a change in the shape and angle of the eyebrows, making people look angry or tired.

The wrinkles of the forehead can be lessened by two surgical approaches. Traditionally, a long incision was made across the top of the head within the hairline. This approach is now replaced using three to five very small incisions and TV cameras to elevate the tissues and allow them to be raised back to their original position. Once the skin has been moved upward, it is held in place until it heals in the new position.

After the surgery, the forehead lines are lessened and the appearance of the eyes and upper third of the face is much more soft, youthful and rested.

NOSE RESHAPING (RHINOPLASTY)

Nose reshaping surgery is required when there is a prominent hump or a deformity after trauma to the nose. Rhinoplasty nose surgery may also help improve certain breathing problems.

In the case of a nasal hump, the cartilage and bone is tailored to decrease the height of the nose and also to change the position of the nasal tip, if necessary.

Some nose surgery patients feel that their nose is excessively wide and requires narrowing. The nose can be narrowed through small incisions on the inside leaving no external scars.

If desired, the tip of the nose can be directed in a more upward direction by trimming the septal cartilage. Other techniques that may sometimes be used includes procedures that will narrow the nostrils when they are too wide or flare out excessively. A broken nose that is slightly bowed after trauma can also be straightened. After nose surgery most patients will wear a nasal splint for seven to ten days.

Nose reshaping plastic surgery can result in dramatic improvement in a patient's appearance, and is among the post popular cosmetic surgery procedures.

CHIN, CHEEK & JAW IMPLANTS

Chin, cheek, and jaw implants are used in plastic surgery bring the face into balance by building up the chin, the cheeks or the jaw.

Chin implants can be placed through small incisions beneath the chin or inside the mouth and dramatically correct a small chin. Placing implants through small incisions inside the mouth can augment the cheekbones. These implants can vary in size and shape depending upon the desired look. The angle of the jaw can be made slightly stronger and more defined with implants placed through the mouth.

The improvement in facial contours after placement of small implants can give a fuller, more balanced look and a more confident appearance.

CORRECTION OF PROMINENT EARS

Prominent ears are a congenital problem that can affect self-esteem. Children as young as five years of age can have correction for prominent ears. Correcting the shape of the ear results in a natural, more dignified appearance.

A small incision is made behind the ear and sutures are placed to close the angle of the ears to a more natural location.
