Am I a Candidate?

Not everyone is a suitable candidate for SmartLipo. The following are some steps you can take to determine if you are a good candidate for this procedure:

  • Assess your overall health and decide whether it is good enough for cosmetic surgery. Although SmartLipo is less drastic than traditional liposuction, it is still surgery that carries inherent risks. You should not have cancer or any other type of invasive disease if you want to undergo SmartLipo.
  • Make sure you are the appropriate age for SmartLipo. Those 18 years old and under are prohibited from undergoing laser liposuction. If you are elderly, you have lost a significant amount of elasticity in your skin and laser liposuction is generally not recommended.
  • Evaluate the amount of fat you wish to have removed. SmartLipo will only remove up to 15 pounds of fat in a desired area. Therefore, if you wish to remove over 15 pounds of fat, you should seek another method.
  • Make sure that you have tried all other options for losing weight and getting rid of excess fat before undergoing cosmetic surgery. While SmartLipo is not as harsh as traditional liposuction, complications are still possible. After you have exhausted diet and exercise techniques, only then should you explore your liposuction options.

Ideal SmartLipo Candidates

Generally speaking, any person in good health with stubborn fat deposits may be a fitting candidate for SmartLipo. The ideal candidate also practices a healthy lifestyle such as eating nutritious foods and exercising regularly. Candidates must not be obese, as SmartLipo can only remove 10 to 15 pounds of fat. Therefore, patients who are in shape (or just slightly overweight) are ideal SmartLipo candidates.
