Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

Newport Beach - Orange County - California

Numerous factors can impact the appearance of your stomach: Weight gain and loss, pregnancy, and even genetics can play a roll in how your tummy looks. Diet and exercise can have a tremendous affect on your overall appearance, but what do you do when loose, sagging, unattractive skin or loose abdominal muscles seems resistant to all of your best efforts? It is in these cases that a tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, can provide you with the results you desire. If this sounds appealing to you, contact Dr. Hendricks for a consultation to see if a tummy tuck is right for you.

Tummy Tuck Procedure

There are two types of tummy tucks: full and mini. Dr. Hendricks will discuss which one is appropriate for you during your consultation.

  • Full Tummy Tuck - Two incisions are made - one above the pubic area, and another to free the navel from surrounding skin. Once the abdominal wall is revealed, the muscles are stitched together to form a tighter appearance. Liposuction is used to remove additional fat, and excess skin is removed. The bellybutton is then stitched into a new, higher location, and all incisions are stitched closed.
  • Mini Tummy Tuck - A smaller incision is made above the pubic area. In some cases the muscles of the abdomen are stitched together, in others the skin is moved down and excess skin is removed. Liposuction is again used to remove excess fat and sculpt and contour the belly. The incision is stitched closed.

In both instances a drain may need to be inserted to allow excess fluid to drain out in the days following your procedure. In some cases, additional surgical procedures may be recommended by Dr. Hendricks.

Tummy Tuck Recovery Time

Recovery depends on the type of Tummy Tuck preformed. In most cases, it is recommended that a period of one to four weeks be taken off of work. During this time, you should avoid athletic or physically stressful activities. An abdominal binder or compression garment may be used to help speed the process of recovery, reduce swelling, and provide additional support and comfort during these first few weeks. Full recovery can take up to six months, but your scar will continue to fade after that time until it is almost unnoticeable.

Tummy Tuck Results

For many people, having a firmer, thinner abdomen boosts self-esteem and relieves social awkwardness. Being able to fit into clothes you've always wanted but were too self-conscious to wear, having the ability to relax in a swimming suit, and more importantly, to be more comfortable in your own skin is a priceless gift you can give to yourself.

If you are struggling with excessive, sagging skin or loose abdominal muscles that diet and exercise don't seem to impact, please contact experienced Newport Beach, California tummy tuck surgeon Dr. Hendricks for a private consultation.
